Distill

Distill

Is there a place in the garden

Where I can walk with God

Is there a place where He tends

Where the weeds and overgrowth

Do not choke out the life

Or is this survival of the fittest

Simply the way it’s to be?

Because the weeds and the overgrowth are life

They are simply life where we don’t want it to be

We have the choice to remove it

We have the choice to let it stay

We have the choice to work

We have the choice to play

We have the choice to trust

We have the choice to doubt

But all these choices still contain life

So this makes me wonder

Is the entire garden the place where God is?

Maybe I’ve been looking too long at the rose

While he’s been with the dandelion all along

The blackberry brambles are singing a song

I miss it in the searching for perfections

I miss it in the ignorance of my reflections

I miss it in the wonder of you

I’m looking for the morning dew

In a land of bright sunshine and heat

I say a prayer and push repeat

Wondering why the laws of nature won’t comply

I don’t think it’s God that needs to reply

No,

I think it’s my mindsets that need to die

The ones that demand all my attention

I look for a life of deep fruition

But refuse to drink the water that’s offered me

I’d rather sip a cup of tea

Than to get into the midst of life’s grit, life’s dirt

I refuse to get into the midst of life’s hurt

I have the audacity to wonder why my life is a shell

I have pondered this long, I have pondered this well

I have looked everywhere for heaven

I have found death, dark, and hell

But even in those discoveries I have discovered myself

I have discovered the truths on the books on the shelf

I have also discovered the lies, the fantasies, the hopes, the dreams

I have discovered the secret of what life really means

It simply all boils down to love so it seems

It simply all boils down to love, so it seems
